First Baptist Church is blessed to have Dr. Scott Gilbert as our senior pastor, effective January 2023. Dr. Gilbert is a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, preacher and shepherd, and a seminary PhD research supervisor. He has led many mission trips in partnership with the International Mission Board and has been an adjunct professor at a Baptist college. He has also been a member of the credentials committee of the Missouri Baptist Convention. Scott began his public ministry in 2000 and has served full time in the ministry for the last fifteen years, most recently in a senior pastor position at Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church in St. Joseph, Missouri. His previous roles include Pastor of Discipleship and Children’s Ministry, Children’s Minister, and Interim Youth Minister. Scott’s commitment to evangelism and missions is evident across the years; his most recent church is a top missions-giving church in Missouri. Scott earned the PhD in Christian Preaching from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, where he also completed the Master of Theology and Advanced Master of Divinity degrees. He is a summa cum laude graduate, earning bachelor of arts degrees in both religion and English from the University of the Cumberlands, a Baptist institution in Williamsburg, Kentucky. Scott’s hometown is Somerset, Kentucky, where he was ordained in 2007. His interests are reading, home improvement projects, and good coffee. Scott is married to Jennifer “Jenn” Gilbert and they have two children. Jennifer earned bachelor of science degrees in both religion and psychology, also from the University of Cumberlands where she met Scott. Her work experience is in finance, homeschooling, and most recently substitute teaching. Jenn’s hometown is Sylacauga, Alabama and her interests are women’s ministry and cooking. Scott and Jenn have two children. Scott and Jenn have been drawn to the sincerity and reverence of worship at First Baptist Church, the church’s commitment to missions, and the welcoming nature of the congregation. Scott was called on December 4, 2022, to be the church’s senior pastor. |
